LOS ANGELES — Bret Michaels has canceled his remaining 2026 tour dates to rest and recover from recent medical procedures.

After hitting the stage to perform in Sugar Hill, Ga., on Friday, the Poison lead singer was advised he needed more time to recuperate from recent surgeries. In July, Michaels was diagnosed with a complicated obstructing kidney stone, which required immediate surgery and the placement of a ureteral stent. He was unable to perform until the stent was removed.

“Following Bret Michaels’ comeback show at [the Bowl at Sugar Hill], doctors and paramedics determined immediately after the show that he still needs additional rest and recovery from his recent surgeries,” read an update posted to the singer’s Instagram and website on Saturday. “Bret will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%.”

According to a statement from the musician’s doctors that was included in the announcement, they are pulling Michaels “off the road for the time being” because they “feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.”

Michaels was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 6 years old, which affects his recovery process.

On Sunday, the singer shared his own update. He wrote about how he is “work[ing] diligently with [his] doctors and physical therapists” to adjust his medication and factor in the variables that come with touring — like the heat and travel schedule — which he had initially forgotten to take into account with his excitement to return to the stage.

He also thanked his fans, family, crew and other musicians for the support and well wishes sent his way.

“I truly felt I would be able to do all these shows in spite of the recent medical domino effect that has occurred,” Michaels wrote on Instagram. “You’ve gotta know that my energy and my soul really want to play music. Hopefully, I will get this figured out much sooner than later. If I could, I would be back out there tomorrow.”
