Ricky Gervais open to assisted dying but only under strict circumstances

Ricky Gervais would consider going to assisted dying clinic Dignitas but only in certain circumstances.
The 65-year-old comedian, who has voiced his support for the UK's Assisted Dying Bill, has opened up about whether or not he'd consider going to the Swiss clinic to end his life on his own terms if his health declined as he gets older.
While he isn't against the idea, he explained to Saga magazine: "But it would take quite a lot to get me there.
"I'd want every last breath. It's only if every breath hurts."
Ricky, who is known for his work on the likes of The Office, After Life and new Netflix animated comedy Alley Cats, insisted people should be free to make their own decisions.
He added: "I'm pro-choice; it's your life, you should be able to do what you want.
"But there are all these ridiculous conspiracy theories that people are too eager [to use the Bill's powers] that have spooked people [in the house of Lords to block it]."
Like After Life, Alley Cats features a lot of conversations about mortality, and Ricky argued while he isn't plagued by the same thoughts, he does have some worries.
He explained: "No. I just try and enjoy life every day.
"I think death is nothingness, so I haven't got that anxiety of going to haven or hell. But I worry how I'll die.
"I don't want it to be in agony in a ditch."
As for the rest of his life, Ricky is keen to keep working on Alley Cats, which he's hoping will be recommissioned despite some scathing reviews.
He said: "It's the first show I can imagine doing until I die. I will never run out of ideas for it."
Meanwhile, he's also admitted he could tie the knot with longtime partner Jane Fallon, having previously agreed that inheritance tax is a fair reason to get married.
He said: "That will be the reason I marry. We haven't done it yet. But if it wasn't for [tax]… why? It's mad.
"How more married can you be? We share all our money, we've been living together for 40 years. Some marriages don't last a year.
"It's horrible isn't it? 'I've got to get around to marrying, before I die.'"
