NEW YORK — Brittany Boltinhouse, who was recently stripped of her title as Miss North Carolina USA, believes she is being punished for her conservative beliefs.

Boltinhouse was officially dethroned earlier this week, after pageant organizers A Blaize Productions conducted what it said was “a thorough review of recently surfaced information.” While the pageant did not elaborate further, Miss USA President and CEO Thom Brodeur in a separate statement said the decision was made jointly with the titleholder, her state directors and the pageant after what it described as conduct that violated its standards.

Bordeur further declared that the organization “does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, nor language that strips any person of their dignity — whoever they are.”

The decision, made just more than a month after Boltinhouse, 27, nabbed her crown, came amid allegations from a local media outlet suggesting the beauty queen posted insensitive social media messages between 2017 and 2019 under an alias.

In her first comments since, Boltinhouse, who is Mormon, told Carolina Journal editor in chief Donna King she lost her title because of her “political stance and my belief system as a conservative Christian woman.”

The ex-beauty queen added: “I’m proud of my standards. I’m a proud conservative woman, but a Christian woman. I’m a God-fearing woman.”

When asked whether she believed being a supporter of President Donald Trump is “disqualifying” in the pageant world, she danced around answering while again defending conservative values.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. All I can say from the information that I have today and what I believe and I think is honestly I don’t know,” Boltinhouse said. “I wasn’t really given anything.”

“All I can say is that I think and believe that my title was ripped from me because of my beliefs.”

Runner-up Myla Hadley will now represent the Tar Heel State on Aug. 27 when a new Miss USA is chosen in Florida. The pageant is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
