Brooke Shields was one of many 1980s stars who helped shape Kaia Gerber's look in The Shards.

The 24-year-old star channelled actress Brooke, 61, as she got glammed up as Susan Reynolds, the popular student body president, complete with the era's iconic voluminous, bouncy hair.

Kaia worked with costume designers Lou Eyrich and Josh Marsh to create her look for the FX teen thriller series.

She told People: "What was so lovely about Lou and Josh, our incredible costume designers, is that they talked to all of us before they started filming and gave us their ideas and asked our opinions. It's such an honour to be asked by people that I respect so much."

The beauty - whose mom is model Cindy Crawford, 60, and dad is 64-year-old businessman Rande Gerber - said her character's look was influenced by several 1980s stars, including Brooke, as well as 82-year-old model-and-actress Lauren Hutton.

Kaia explained: "Every character had these incredible mood boards. They have them up in the fittings. There was a lot of Lauren Hutton and Brooke Shields. There was some Gia Carangi on mine."

Kaia particularly loved the "incredible" coral jumpsuit she wore in the show, adding: "It was so fun to film, and I love that jumpsuit."

The entertainer also adored working with her castmates.

She said: "I feel like I won the lottery or something. Also, they let me be friends with them, which is the coolest part."

Kaia's co-star Graham Campbell - who plays Thom Wright, Susan's boyfriend, in The Shards - declared her a "real artist".

He told People: "Kaia has a wild intelligence that I think the world knows quite a bit about, especially through her work with her company Library Science [Kaia's book club].

"But she's incredibly intelligent, and she's incredibly empathetic."

Graham recalled being wowed by Kaia the first time they met.

The actor explained: "The nature of this reading that I met her at was really indicative of that. I was like, 'That is a real artist, a person with a real artist's soul.' I think the world will see that in [the show]."

Kaia also remembered being impressed by Graham, and she is thrilled that they are now starring together in The Shards.

She said: "I knew he was doing a play on Broadway at the time that I'd heard incredible things about.

"I had heard particularly how good he was in it and how great of an actor he was. We got to know each other, and now we're Susan and Thom."

Kaia and Graham also star alongside Wes Bentley, 47, Hayes Warner, 27, Homer Gere, 26, and Igby Rigney, 23, in The Shards.
