Jameela Jamil has found herself under fire after saying Ariana Grande is "possibly dying right in front of us".

The Good Place actress - who has previously been open about her own battle with disordered eating- took to her social media pages to have her say on the singer, after Ariana sparked concern with her slim frame in the music video for her new song Petal.

She wrote: "This poor woman is possibly dying right in front of us. This outfit is designed to accentuate the thinness for discourse.

"Her team are thoroughly irresponsible for not guiding her away from this deeply damaging image for her young fans to see so glamourised."

Jameela quickly attracted backlash for the comments, with one person writing: "How many times has Ariana said that comments about her body affect her deeply?? just accept her art and LET HER BE!"

Another added: "I think we SHOULD ALL STOP DISCUSSING HER BODY. We are not helping."

As a third wrote: "She has never not once in her life minded her own damn business."

While someone else commented: "Say this to her personally, don't body shame her to get clout. She doesn't know Ariana's dynamic. She has family and friends, and this woman is making an uninformed statement about someone she doesn't know."

Jameela later returned to her page to defend herself and state she "prays that Ariana recovers".

The controversy comes after Ariana announced she's "taking a step back from visibility" after her Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes in London amid "endless, ongoing public scrutiny" over her health and body.

A spokesperson for the three-time Grammy winner told People: "Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour.

"She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.

"This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much."

Following her September 1 show at London's The O2 arena, the 33-year-old singer was due to star opposite her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey, 38, in the West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George, scheduled to open next summer at the Barbican Centre in the British capital.

Empire Street Productions, the producers of Sunday in the Park with George, said in a statement: "Following this evening's announcement from Ariana Grande's team, Empire Street Productions can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George.

"We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support.

"We wish her nothing but the best.

"The production will open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned, and casting will be announced in due course."
