Miley Cyrus is plotting her return to acting as she would love to star in a "good old Shakespearean tragedy".

The pop singer rose to fame as a child actress - fronting teen sitcom Hannah Montana and it's movie spin-off - while she's also appeared in films including The Last Song, LOL and So Undercover. Miley has been focusing on music in recent years but she's hoping to return to the big screen and already has ideas.

In an interview with Splash star Daryl Hannah for Wonderland magazine, Miley was asked about her acting ambitions and she said: "Well …That's partly why I wanted to get in touch. I'd genuinely love to do both.

"My dream has always been to work with artists I admire, and you're one of them. I think we'd make magic together, Daryl. I have an idea. Call me."

Later in the piece, Miley opened up about her ideas for her future acting projects revealing she would love to tackle a movie based around a play by William Shakespeare.

She said: "Violence is everywhere, and there's a beauty in darkness, but I'd love to disappear into something deeply romantic.

"The kind of love we dream about, but with real stakes. A good old Shakespearean tragedy would be hot - a punk-rock Juliet. Something fierce and heartbreakingly romantic."

It comes after Miley recommitted herself to her music career by signing with a new record label after leaving Sony Music's Columbia Records.

The 33-year-old singer-songwriter has penned a new contract with Atlantic Records.

A post on the label's official Instagram page read: "Welcome to the family @mileycyrus."

Miley is in good company on her new label, which also works alongside the likes of Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Rosé, PinkPantheress, and Lizzo.

The Hannah Montana star began her music career with Disney's Hollywood Records, through which she dropped three albums, and she went on to release four albums through RCA. In 2021, she inked a deal with Columbia Records.

At the time, alongside a snap of her holding her paper contract in hand, she wrote on her Instagram Story: "WHEN IM NOT RUNNING GAME. IM RUNNING MY MF BUSINESS. LET'S RIDE. (sic)"

Miley went on to drop two albums, Endless Summer Vacation and Something Beautiful, through the label. Just days before she released Something Beautiful on May 30th, 2025, Miley told how the follow-up record would be "extremely experimental".

As reported by Rolling Stone magazine, she gave fans at an event at Hollywood's Chateau Marmont hotel a hint of what's to come.

She told the small crowd: "My next album is about to be extremely experimental, so have fun with that.

"Something Beautiful is just the appetizer."
