Ariana Grande lyric change nods at Ricky Alvarez reconciliation rumors

NEW YORK — Ariana Grande switched up the Ricky Alvarez section of her “thank u, next” lyrics during Monday’s Barclays Center show, in an apparent nod to the exes’ rumored reconciliation.
The newly single Oscar-nominated “Wicked” star, 33, crooned, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / We always find our way back” — rather than the original, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh” — during Monday’s leg of her Eternal Sunshine tour, People reports.
Alvarez, 34, who was spotted hanging out with Grande amid her 33rd birthday weekend last month, isn’t the only ex she name checks in the beloved 2018 track, which also nods to Pete Davidson, Big Sean, and the late Mac Miller.
The Daily News has reached out to representatives for Grande.
This isn’t the first time that her apparent reconciliation with Alvarez has prompted Grande to alter his section of “thank u, next.”
Alvarez — who dated the pop star from 2015 to July 2016 — attended Grande’s June 27 show, the same night as her birthday. At the time, she sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / He’s still got my back.” The pair had been at a group dinner the day prior in Austin, Texas.
An insider at the time told People that the former couple had “been hanging out recently.”
The sightings and lyrical nods came just weeks after news that Grande and “Wicked” co-star Ethan Slater had “quietly” and amicably split “several months” prior, as insiders close to them informed TMZ.
Grande and the Broadway alum, 34, initially made headlines with their romance in summer 2023, shortly after she and husband Dalton Gomez called it quits. Sources at the time insisted that, before they got together, both had already ended their respective marriages, including Slater’s with high school sweetheart, Lilly Jay.
