NEW YORK — The death of “Party Rock Anthem” singer Lauren Bennett is currently being investigated as a suicide.

As of Wednesday, the British musician — believed to have been around 37 years old — is believed to have died by suicide on May 29, multiple sources with direct knowledge told TMZ.

Though Bennett died more than a month ago, her passing was little known to the public until this Monday, when her former G.R.L. bandmates announced the heartbreaking loss in a statement on Instagram.

“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren. Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us,” wrote Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton, and Paula van Oppen, all of whom remembered Bennett’s “beautiful spirit. … She will be deeply missed and forever loved.”

TMZ reported Tuesday that the Kent and Medway Coroner Service in mid-June had initiated a probe, which could last through October.

Also Tuesday, Bennett’s father, Richard Bennett, shed some light on what may have led to Lauren’s death, as he shared news of her passing “with a broken heart” and honored the late singer as “the love of my life and my pride and joy.”

“Months before her death, Lauren experienced a severe reaction to a prescribed medication,” said her father. “As a family, we all rallied around her and did everything we could to support her.”

He said that while the family holds “no suspicions regarding the circumstances of her death,” they have “only deep disappointment that, for five months, medical professionals and NHS services failed to treat her appropriately during her time of greatest need.”

He remembered Lauren as “creative, talented, funny, and as humble as she was beautiful.”

“Lauren was deeply loved and will be missed every day for the rest of our lives,” wrote her father. “Her legacy lives on through her daughter, her family, and through the music she leaves behind.”
