MINNEAPOLIS — After abruptly ending his St. Paul show mid-concert on Wednesday because of dizziness, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two performances, Friday in Chicago and Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

Chicago’s United Center posted on social media on Thursday that “under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health,” the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has postponed his two shows, with plans to return to the stage on Tuesday in Pittsburgh. The postponed gigs will be rescheduled.

On Wednesday in St. Paul, Richie had performed for 55 minutes when he spoke of feeling dizzy and strange. He even performed “Dancing on the Ceiling,” one of his most energetic tunes, while seated on steps, the first time he’s ever sat for that song, he told the 10,000 fans at Grand Casino Arena.

Richie sat down at a grand piano for the ensuing “Three Times a Lady” and afterward announced he needed an intermission, which wasn’t planned in his scheduled 90-minute performance.

His five band members stayed onstage for about 15 minutes and then exited without a word. About 40 minutes after Richie’s exit, saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to the stage and said Richie wasn’t feeling well and the show would not continue.

Wednesday was the opening night of Richie’s and Earth, Wind & Fire’s Sing A Song All Night Long Tour.

Richie’s representatives have not commented on the situation.
