Damon Dash 'embarrassed' for Jay-Z after recent performance

NEW YORK — Damon Dash is “embarrassed” that his former Roc-a-Fella Records co-founder Jay-Z supposedly has to sing for his supper.
The 55-year-old entrepreneur claimed he still sees the hip-hop mogul as a brother before telling "The Art of Dialogue" it pained him to watch his longtime associate perform last week at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia.
“It must be embarrassing for him to now have to be on that stage, not the same version of himself, and still have to work at that age,” Dash said. “I just felt kinda’ embarrassed for him.”
In addition to questioning Jay-Z’s talent and financial standing, Dash made fun of his former associate’s haircut and wondered if he “still” has bad breath.
“Make J great again, that’s the new slogan,” he wisecracked.
Forbes claims Jay-Z is worth nearly $3 billion, making him one of the richest entertainers alive. He’s married to award-winning singer Beyoncé, who’s also said to be a billionaire. They have 60 Grammy Awards between them. Jay-Z, who was born Shawn Carter, is scheduled to perform three Yankee Stadium shows next month. Those concerts sold out immediately.
Dash, who started Roc-a-Fella Records with Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke in 1994, claimed in a bankruptcy filing last year that he’s $25 million in debt. The pair effectively ended their business relationship in 2004 when the Island Def Jam Music Group bought Roc-a-Fella and made Jay-Z the company’s president. Jay-Z and Dash were later involved in litigation over the rights to music recorded by the former.
Billboard speculated that Jay-Z, 56, may have taken a dig at Dash during his recent Philadelphia performance when he rapped “N—‘s teeth is tumblin’ out their mouth and somehow I’m the one who done it.”
