Ariel Winter hopes to retain a "friendship" with Luke Benward.

The 28-year-old actress and Luke quietly split in 2025 after six years together, but Ariel insists that they remain on good terms and will continue to be friends.

Under a People post on Instagram about their break-up, Ariel wrote: "He's still one of my best friends, a great human being and a great pup coparent, just because sometimes people aren't meant to be doesn't mean you don't still appreciate the time spent and retain the friendship you shared. Still a big luke fan over here!!! (sic)"

A source recently reiterated that the Modern Family star and Luke remain good friends.

The insider told People: "They just realised after almost six years that they were better as friends."

They added that Ariel - who played the part of Alex Dunphy in Modern Family - still regards Luke as "the best" and insisted: "There's tons of love still there between them."

The source went on: "They are still best friends and share the pups, so everything is really good."

Meanwhile, Ariel previously revealed that she's "open" to the idea of a Modern Family reunion.

The actress - who appeared on the ABC sitcom between 2009 and 2020 - explained that she's now open to the possibility of reviving the role.

Ariel - who starred on the hit TV show alongside the likes of Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland and Sofia Vergara - told E! News: "I'd definitely be open to it. But that's not up to me. That's up to the powers that be. If they want to hit me up, they can hit me up."

The actress also revealed what she hopes to see from Alex if she does return.

She added: "Alex had so many different interests. They were all extremely educational, smart and amazing interests. But I would hope that she has expanded her life in so many ways that I know she could have.

"I hope now that she's found herself totally in the way that she would want to, and put some effort into finding her heart and what she loves personally, because she's already achieved so much professionally."
