Bonnie Tyler 'remains seriously ill but stable' in Portugal

Representatives for Bonnie Tyler confirmed that the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer’s health continues to be of concern while blasting Portuguese media for reports about her condition.
“As of this morning Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro, however her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery,” a note on the 74-year-old pop star’s website said Tuesday.
Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã claimed last week that Tyler was hospitalized for what appeared to be a ruptured appendix after the singer’s website wrote that she’d undergone “emergency intestinal surgery.”
According to that publication, she was placed into a medically induced coma and suffered cardiac arrest related to the procedure.
Tyler’s representatives said Tuesday that “Bonnie’s family are very disappointed at the many lurid and untrue rumours now circulating in the media and said the information being shared about the singer’s health were being shared by an associate who “does not represent them in any way whatsoever and is not in contact with them regarding Bonnie.”
Tyler’s team didn’t respond to a Daily News request for comment on Monday, but earlier confirmed on the hit-maker’s website that she’s in a coma.
“When there is any further news of Bonnie’s condition then we will issue another statement but ask that the media cease to speculate or publish wild rumours, which simply serve to upset her family, friends, and many fans, and ask again for privacy and decency at this difficult time,” her representatives wrote.
Tyler reportedly experienced discomfort while performing in London, then returned to her home in Portugal where she experienced abdominal issues.
In addition to her chart-topping 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” Tyler has enjoyed success with popular singles including “It’s a Heartache” and “Holding Out for a Hero.”
The next scheduled performance on her website is a May 30 concert in Germany. The Times of Malta reported last week that she pulled out of a May 22 music festival in Malta on account health issues.
