Robert Cosby Jr., the son of “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Mary Cosby, was facing a pair of domestic violence charges when he died in Utah earlier this week, according to reports.

Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department responded on Monday to a possible drug overdose at his home just before 6:14 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, 23-year-old Cosby was “not conscious” and “not breathing,” according to dispatch audio obtained by People.

“One dose of Narcan has been given,” the dispatcher says, referring to an over-the-counter nasal spray used to counter life-threatening opioid overdoses. “Police have been called. Three units in route.”

By the time they arrived, though, there was nothing that could be done and Cosby was pronounced dead on the scene.

His death comes just months after his wife, Alexiana Smokoff, filed for divorce after three years of marriage. He was also only recently freed from jail after pleading guilty in December to a series of charges including assault and violating a pretrial protective order obtained by Smokoff.

Earlier this month, he was charged with felony aggravated assault, and felony assault related to an incident that occurred in May 2024, TMZ reported. The alleged victim — who came forward in November 2025 — was identified only by her initials, A.S. She also referred to Cosby as her husband in documents obtained by the gossip website.

She told authorities that Cosby became enraged when she flushed his drugs down the toilet, claiming he “beat her about the face and head, and kicked her in the stomach” before choking her for 10 seconds. She also showed investigators photos from that day in which her eyes appear “red and swollen, her left eye has a lump below the eyebrow, and there is a red mark visible on A.S.’s neck,” TMZ reported.

His mother, Mary Cosby, was listed as a witness in the charging documents. She confirmed on Wednesday that her son had died with a post on Instagram

“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord,” she wrote. “Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”
