Kendrick Lamar breaks Jay Z's Grammy record
Published in Entertainment News
Kendrick Lamar has become the most-decorated rap artist in the history of the Grammy Awards.
The 38-year-old rap star has now won 27 Grammy Awards during his career, thereby surpassing the previous record set by Jay Z, after he took home the awards for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Performance on Sunday (02.01.26).
Kendrick - who won the award for Best Rap Album for GNX, as well as winning Record of the Year for Luther - said during the ceremony: "I'm not good at talking about myself, but I express it through the music. It's an honour to be here."
Kendrick also took the time to praise the other nominees.
He said: "Hip hop is gonna always be right here. We gonna be in these suits. We gonna be looking good. We gonna be having our folks with us. We gonna be having the culture with us.
"So I appreciate y'all, God is the glory. Love y'all."
Elsewhere, Bad Bunny also enjoyed significant success, becoming the first artist to win Album of the Year for an all-Spanish language record.
The 31-year-old star also won the Best Musica Urbana Album Grammy for Debí Tirar Mas Fotos, and he addressed recent unrest in the US in his acceptance speech.
He said: "Before I say thanks to God, I'm gonna say ICE out.
"We're not savage, we're not animals, we're not aliens - we are humans, and we are Americans."
Meanwhile, Billie Eilish won the Song of the Year Grammy for Wildflower, and she used her acceptance speech to advocate for immigrants, too.
The 24-year-old singer - who was joined on stage by her brother, Finneas O'Connell - said: "As grateful as I feel, I honestly don't feel like I need to say anything but that no one is illegal on stolen land."
Billie added: "It's just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, and I just feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter."
Earlier in the evening, Olivia Dean described herself as the "product of bravery" after winning the Best New Artist Grammy.
The singer - who released The Art of Loving, her second studio album, in 2025 - was visibly moved by her success and she used her platform to pay a glowing tribute to her family.
Olivia, 26 - whose grandmother emigrated to the UK from Guyana at the age of 18 - said: "I guess I want to say I'm up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant. I wouldn't be here -- I'm a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated. We're nothing without each other. Thank you so much."
Prior to that, Steven Spielberg earned EGOT status after winning his first Grammy Award.
The filmmaker joined the exclusive club of award winners, as the documentary Music by John Williams - which the Jaws director produced - won in the Best Music Film category.
Spielberg said: "Thank you to all the Grammy voters, whose recognition of Music by John Williams means the world to me and our Amblin team, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, and congratulations to our partners at Imagine and the Walt Disney Company.
"This acknowledgment is obviously deeply meaningful to me because it validates what I have known for over 50 years: John Williams' influence on culture and music is immeasurable and his artistry and legacy is unrivaled."
The award ceremony was hosted by comedian Trevor Noah and featured performances from the likes of Justin Bieber, Addison Rae, and Sabrina Carpenter.
