HARTFORD, Conn. — Former UConn women’s basketball teammates Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd addressed their relationship Friday on a podcast, saying it had been over for over a year.

On Fudd’s “Fudd Around And Find Out” podcast, Bueckers said of her current Dallas Wings teammate, “We’re not together anymore; it’s been a while. (We) share that because everybody [was] like, ‘Oh my gosh, they’re teammates, how is this going to work?’ ”

Fudd was drafted No. 1 by the Wings on April 13 but Bueckers said the relationship was already over at that point.

“She was not drafted because she was my girlfriend,” Bueckers said on the podcast. “She was drafted because she deserved it. She’s an amazing human, an amazing basketball player. And we’re still friends, we’re still cool.

“We played an entire season together; we’re the utmost professionals.”

The issue was brought up at Fudd’s initial Wings press conference when Dallas Morning News reporter Kevin Sherrington asked about their relationship status and how they planned to balance that dynamic playing with each other, but he was rebuked by a Wings public relations representative and Fudd did not answer the question. The moment was widely shared on social media, with some saying their relationship was personal and private and others saying that it was a legitimate question because it could affect the team dynamic.

Their relationship became public in the summer of 2025 after the Huskies won the national championship.

Fudd played only 30 games this WNBA season due to a right knee injury. She had arthroscopic surgery in August.

“My offseason’s been good,” Fudd said on the podcast. “Lots of rehab, lots of training, lots of on-court workouts, lots of traveling. It’s been busy.”

Fudd will be at UConn Sunday to be inducted into the Huskies of Honor before UConn’s game against Iowa at M&T Arena at Gampel Pavilion. The ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. and the game will tip off at 2 p.m.
