Let’s begin the New Year with a miniature two-mover. Nothing too challenging. It does belie the old adage that a bishop and queen can’t work well together.

This was a composition by George Carpenter in 1919. 1.Ba7 Kc7 1...e6 2.Qc5#; 1...e5 2.Qd7#; 1...Kc6 2.Qd7# 2.Qd7# Quite lovely and simple. Try it without the Black pawn.
