Political streamer Hasan Piker says University of Washington canceled speaking event because of views on Israel

SEATTLE — The University of Washington canceled a planned speech by Hasan Piker, saying the popular and controversial far-left streamer was disinvited from a speaker series after questions about the internal process for selecting speakers.

“It was determined that that the process for organizing this event did not meet the necessary level of rigor for University-hosted events in the Speaker Series,” the university said in a news statement. “As a result, this event will not be held.”

Piker is a strident critic of Israel’s policy and attacks on Palestinians, which he considers to be genocide. In May 2025, Piker said he was questioned by federal officials at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport regarding his political views.

In a post Tuesday retweeting a Fox News story on his canceled event at UW, Piker said he believed the school made the call because of his views on Israel.

Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son pleads guilty to child abuse, report says

Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old son of Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, has accepted a plea deal in a child abuse case that could land him behind bars, according to a report.

Boebert is expected to plead guilty to child abuse/negligence without injury as part of the deal offered by the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, which recommended a sentence of up to 30 days in jail and a year of supervised probation, according to TMZ.

Prosecutors have also requested that the congresswoman’s son — who is a father — complete a parenting program. The case involves an incident when Boebert was 18 and with a girl a year younger.

Boebert was arrested Sunday on a warrant on “multiple charges,” all felonies, including three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. He was released later that day on $10,000 bond.

DFW Airport to add Islamic foot wash stations in some restrooms

DALLAS — DFW International Airport, the central hub of American Airlines, will install Islamic foot wash stations inside Terminal D restrooms, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The privately funded project, which has an estimated cost of $300,000, is expected to start on Aug. 31 with a completion date slated for Dec. 31, according to the filing.

The scope of the project "consists of adding ablution stations to existing concourse level restrooms in Terminal D, one men's ablution station in existing mens restroom and one women's ablution station in the existing womens restroom," the filing said.

Terminal D is used primarily for international flights. Similar wash stations like the ones DFW will install are offered at facilities in Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Chicago O'Hare International.

Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney walks a political tightrope as US trade talks approach deadline

OTTAWA, Canada — A year ago, after a meeting with Canada’s provincial leaders, Prime Minister Mark Carney made a pledge that he has since repeated many times.

“Canada will not accept a bad deal,” he said about trade negotiations with President Donald Trump’s administration.

That promise is being put to the test as never before. Canadian trade officials have spent days camped out in Washington as they try to reach a pact to avert a punishing array of new tariffs threatened by the White House.

Trump and his officials have demanded Carney act on a lengthy list of trade irritants or the U.S. will move forward on Aug. 19 with 50% duties on about $20 billion worth of Canadian products, including milk, plywood, hockey sticks and beer.
