Beer giant Anheuser-Busch will be closing its brewery in Newark, New Jersey, in early 2026 after nearly 75 years.

Full-time employees will be offered a choice between severance packages or jobs at other locations, including money to relocate, according to a press release sent to media outlets Thursday.

“Over the last five years we have taken steps to update and modernize our U.S. manufacturing operations, investing nearly $2 billion in our 100 facilities across the country,” the statement said. “After conducting a thorough review, we have decided to sell our Newark, NJ facility to the Goodman Group.”

The Minnesota-based Goodman Group, which also purchased the former Daily News printing plant in Jersey City that was last used in 2022, plans to “repurpose the site for industrial manufacturing and logistics uses,” the company said.

Anheuser-Busch also plans to shutter operations in Fairfield, Calif., and Merrimack, N.H. The three breweries combined are said to employ 475 people.

The company said that closing the three facilities “will enable us to invest even more in our remaining operations and in our portfolio of growing, industry-leading brands.”

Budweiser, Bud Light, Busch, Busch Light and Rolling Rock are among the beers that are brewed at the Newark facility, located along Routes 1 & 9.

The historic plant, which opened in 1951, is the second-oldest Anheuser-Busch brewery in the U.S., according to NJ Advance Media. The St. Louis company operates 12 breweries nationwide.
