NEW YORK — Jaxson Dart’s second NFL season only lasted 76 snaps.

The Giants’ starting quarterback is expected to have season-ending surgery on his left knee after soliciting second opinions on the results of Tuesday’s MRI, per ESPN.

Dart’s ACL is intact, but he suffered damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus when he was hit by Rams edge rushers Josaiah Stewart and Byron Young in Monday night’s 28-6 loss to the L.A. Rams.

The meniscus damage is considered the main issue with trying to rest and play through the injury.

Surgery is the proper course of action for a young QB like Dart to get him fully recovered and ready for his third NFL season. But it’s a huge blow to a Giants team that was hoping to accomplish big things under first-year head coach John Harbaugh.

Jameis Winston takes over as the team’s starting quarterback for Sunday’s Week 3 home game against the Tennessee Titans.

The only other quarterback on the roster is Jake Haener, who is on the Giants’ practice squad.
