Published in Baseball
The Mets struck first, the White Sox tied the game in the bottom of the second, then it was off to the races.
Carson Benge went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and a home run, and the Mets got homers from Bo Bichette, Luis Robert Jr., and Luis Torrens. The lineup knocked Luis Castillo Jr. out of the game after just 2 2/3 innings and four earned runs.
Right-handed Christian Scott gave up four earned runs on five hits, with four walks getting him into trouble. He struck out six over 4 2/3 innings. Austin Warren got the win in relief (2-3), throwing 1 2/3 innings and striking out three.
Robert, who came up with the White Sox, went 2 for 5 with three RBIs in his second game back on the South Side since being traded to the Mets.
Every member of the Mets starting lineup had at least one hit, with the exception of Francisco Lindor. Luis Torrens hit his eighth homer of the season in the top of the ninth, a two-run shot off right-handed Trevor Richards, giving the Mets a commanding lead late enough to shut the door.
The series is tied 1-2, and concludes Sunday, with right-hander Nolan McLean facing left-hander Sean Newcomb.
