Is Worldliness is the opposite of Godliness?
From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham
Q: I’m just training myself on how to proficiently use social media and other internet platforms. I was encouraged by my church group to explore the ways of communicating using social media, and I’m intrigued with a website often called the “front page of the internet,” posting: “Worldliness is the opposite of Godliness.” It goes on to say that we all live in worldliness while in the world, but when we die, we live in godly ways because the environment is more “holy,” maybe even earning wings. Is this true? – W.G.
A: Worldliness is actually a spirit, an atmosphere, an influence permeating the whole of life and human society, and it needs to be guarded against constantly and strenuously.
You see, the architect of pop culture is none other than Satan. He is the chief designer and chief marketer, and he has been branding worldliness since the beginning of time. His methods are shifty and constantly in motion, changing fads and trends to keep the world running in circles, trying to keep up with the latest and greatest.
People who profess Christianity have one foot in the world and one foot in the kingdom of God, and it’s like straddling a fence – both positions cause friction and confusion. When we get out of touch with Christ, we begin touching the things of the world, trying to fill the void that human flesh craves. Declare yourself for Christ, and Him alone!
When the Gospel of Jesus Christ is presented with authority – quoting from the very Word of God – He takes that message and drives it supernaturally into the human heart. “The Lord gives the word, and a great army brings the good news” (Psalm 68:11, NLT).
The most thrilling news for the Christian is to read the last page of God’s news; and Jesus says, “Behold, I am coming quickly … to give to every one according to his work” (Revelation 22:12, NKJV).
