Are we the generation who'll see God save the whole world?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I am in a Bible study that teaches we may be the generation to see the whole world saved. I’ve never thought this was a possibility. Is it? – W.S.

A: Nowhere does the Bible teach that the church will ultimately convert the whole world to Jesus Christ. There has never been a generation in history, nor will there ever be a generation, in which the majority of the people will believe in Christ.

But it doesn’t change the fact that Jesus commissioned His followers to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. He had already gone to the cross and voluntarily bled and died for the sins of mankind. He did this to remove our guilt. Jesus’ death on the cross is a profound demonstration of God’s love for all sinners. We will never fully understand this until we are in Heaven with Him, but its central truth is clear: By His death and resurrection Jesus made our salvation possible. But we must humble ourselves in repentance of sin and receive Him. By doing this, He gives us a new heart and puts us on a new path. He died in our place to make new life possible.

God’s justice demands that sin be judged; if not, there is no right and wrong, and God is not just. But instead of us having to bear the condemnation we deserve, Christ took upon Himself our guilt and our punishment. He substituted Himself for us. As the Bible says, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13, NKJV).

The greatest tragedy for the world is for anyone to reject Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior, for the soul is forever lost without Him.
