Dear Upset: As long as you consider yourself to be dramatic, "bitchy," or somehow responsible for your roommate's inconsiderate behavior, she will continue to disrupt your sleep. Your behavior suggests that you both value her comfort over your own.
It's time for you to grow a backbone. The next time this happens, in the moment say, "PLEASE. Please use earbuds. I'd really appreciate it."

Dear Amy: You've been talking about relatives being chronically late.
For many years, we never knew whether Uncle Leo would show up for the family Passover Seder. We just went on without him.
At one point in the Seder, the door is opened to symbolically admit the prophet Elijah. One year, I was sent to the door to open it. I did, and there, about to ring the doorbell, stood Uncle Leo. It was a great family story ever after.
