Holiday Chess School! #4 White is a piece down and his queen is under attack. He has one way out.
If you noticed that last week had a theme about double attacks, this week also has a theme: pins. There are lots of chess phrases about pins: “Pin and win” and “The pin is mightier than the sword” are just two of those. 1.Rd8+ Kxd8 1...Ke7 2.Qxe4+ 2.Qxe4 and wins the queen because the knight is now pinned due to the rook sacrifice and king capture.
