This game, won by St. Amant over Schulten, demonstrates that you don’t need queens on the board for some excitement and a mating attack.


A fine example of an “epaulette” mate, where the king is flanked by the two rooks, which just get in the way. 1.Nf5+ Kh7 2.Rg7+ Nxg7 3.Rh6+ Kg8 4.Ne7#
