White to Play

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

This is another position from Abrahams’ book. A fine example of how to transition to a winning endgame.

White wins with 1.Re8+ Kd7 2.Re3 Qh4 3.Rxd4+ Qxd4 4.Rd3 and the subsequent knight fork with check leaves White with a piece up for two pawns…a fairly simple technical win.
