DETROIT — Six people are dead, including the suspect, in a mass shooting in Northern Michigan, Michigan State Police confirmed Friday.

Details of the attack were emerging late Friday from the MSP officials, including that a person was critically wounded.

MSP Lt. Ashley Miller told WWJ Newsradio that said a call came in to 911 dispatchers reporting a shooting at around 11:40 a.m. Friday, near Lake City, northeast of Cadillac.

Police say the suspect, Chad Hickman, 39, was found dead, and investigators are now working to piece together what happened and why.

Police arrived on the scene and found three people dead. A fourth person, who was critically wounded, was taken to the hospital, Miller told WWJ.

The Michigan State Police 7th District declined to discuss the details late Friday afternoon.

MSP said in a social media post that they closed South LaChance between West Rosted Road and West Jennings Road in Missaukee County due to an active police investigation.

Police launched a large-scale search for Chad Hickman, who was said to be driving a white pickup truck, media reports said. As part of the manhunt for Hickman, State Police searched a location and found the body of an additional victim, Miller said.
