Gary Glitter faces new child sex crime charges dating back decades
Published in News & Features
Jailed British rocker Gary Glitter has been charged with four “historic” sex offenses that occurred between 1978 and 1981 in west London.
The 82-year-old glam star born Paul Gadd is accused of one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14.
Authorities said the charges relate to a single victim.
The United Kingdom’s Metropolitan Police Service said Glitter was interviewed in July 2025 in connection to allegations made that January. Charges against him were reported Thursday. A court date has been set for Aug.5.
Glitter enjoyed success behind hits including 1972’s “Rock & Roll (Part 2),” and the 1973 single “Do You Want to Touch Me.”
His troubles began in 1997 when a computer repairman found child sex abuse material on his laptop. He was sentenced to four months of prison time in connection to those downloaded images.
In 2006, he was sentenced to three years in a Vietnamese jail for committing “obscene acts with children.” Glitter was deported to Great Britain after serving most of that time.
He was sentenced to 16 years behind bars following a 2015 conviction for sex offenses against three girls ranging in age from 8 to 13, according to the Guardian. Glitter was briefly set free in February of 2023 having served only half his sentence. The octogenarian musician was soon incarcerated once more over similar offenses.
He currently resides in southwest England’s Channings Wood Prison.
