Baltimore records 46 homicides this year after fatal shooting in Southeast District

BALTIMORE — Baltimore Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning that marked the city’s 46th homicide of the year, according to data.
Officers responded around 12:14 a.m. to the 3400 block of Leverton Street in the Southeast District for a reported shooting, police said.
At the scene, officers found an unidentified man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to police.
Homicide detectives responded and assumed control of the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 410-396-2100. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
Through June 23, Baltimore has recorded 46 homicides in 2026, compared with 62 during the same period in 2025, according to police data.
The city has also recorded 148 nonfatal shootings this year, compared with 149 at the same point last year.
