A search and rescue mission was underway on North America’s highest peak after four climbers fell high on the slopes of Denali late Wednesday.

Denali National Park and Preserve mountaineering rangers received a report around midnight that the climbers fell near Denali Pass at 18,200 feet, according to a National Park Service statement Thursday. The four were climbing with three other people, who returned to a high camp at 17,000 feet “after attending to their fallen climbing partners,” the release said.

The extent of the fallen climbers’ injuries, as well as their conditions, was not available Thursday afternoon.

Rangers also responded to another climbing incident Wednesday, evacuating two climbers by helicopter around 11 p.m., officials said. No additional information was available.

The incidents are completely separate and not related, an Alaska region park spokesperson said. They described the incident involving the four climbers as “ongoing” and said the agency would not be commenting further at this time.
