Doesn’t the Bible encourage us to lift up those within the household of faith?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: Does the Bible instruct Christians to accept other religious beliefs? What does the Bible say about this, and doesn’t the Bible encourage us to lift up those within the household of faith? – R.C.

A: The Bible says that our obligation to each other as believers in Christ is to exemplify the attributes of Jesus. Paul said, “Be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12, NKJV). This is not a suggestion – it is a command! It is not a recommendation but an obligation, and one that should bring joy not only to others but to ourselves.

The Bible says that we are to clothe ourselves with humility toward each other. We are to put others first, and ourselves last. In the world today, this is not a popular teaching, but it is the truth.

The Bible also tells us to be generous with each other. “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality” (Romans 12:13, NLT). Scripture declares, “As we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10,NKJV).

If our minds and hearts are not filled with God’s truth, something else will take His place: cynicism, occultism, false religions and philosophies – the list is endless. The Bible tells us to study the Word of God.

Some advocate the working out of a system of morals, ethics, and religion that would bring all the religions of the world together. Some Christians are willing to give up some of the teachings of the Bible in order to harmonize Christianity with other religions. It cannot be done. God desires that all people be saved, and for those who receive Christ, they will be received by Him, because Jesus is the only One who can forgive sinners and transform them.
