Jeep's latest ad play involves sex jokes and dark humor
Jeep's advertising formula has been more or less consistent over the years: lots of mud, sand and river crossings. Throw in a flapping American flag and maybe some World War II footage for good measure.
Lately, though, the brand has injected some sex jokes and dark humor — and discovered a new spokeswoman of sorts in the comedian Iliza ...Read more
GM lays off 1,300 workers at FactoryZero EV plant
General Motors Co. temporarily laid off 1,300 workers at its FactoryZero electric vehicle plant in another sign of sluggish demand for battery-powered cars, the company confirmed Monday.
Workers at the plant on the border of Detroit and Hamtramck were laid off March 16 and are set to return April 13.
"Factory ZERO will temporarily adjust ...Read more
Ford, GM take steps to boost truck production
Ford Motor Co. has canceled summer shutdowns at its four plants producing F-Series pickup trucks in an effort to make up for lost volumes due to an aluminum shortage stemming from fires last fall at a supplier, and General Motors Co. is adding a production day at its heavy-duty truck plant in Flint.
Ford on Monday said its Dearborn Truck Plant,...Read more
Auto review: The Jeep Cherokee returns for 2026, but in a surprisingly different way
It’s time to roll out the red carpet for an old friend, one that had quietly slipped offstage, like a graduate student who realized that bourbon is not a food group. That would be the Jeep Cherokee, which reemerges for 2026 as a — no, don’t faint — gas-electric hybrid. That’s right. A Cherokee. Hybrid.
It’s been a long trip since ...Read more
Eric's Autos: 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander
You may have heard the news that the 2027 Toyota Highlander is going to be electric only. That may not be welcome news if you're wanting a Highlander that isn't an electric vehicle.
The good news is that the Grand Highlander still comes standard with an engine rather than a battery pack. It also has something else the regular Highlander hasn't ...Read more
Eric's Autos: 2026 Mazda CX-70
What's the difference between the Mazda CX-70 and the Mazda CX-90 -- other than the latter having three rows while the former has two?
Next to nothing.
And that's not a bad thing.
What It Is
The CX-70 is the two-row iteration of the CX-90. Or you could say the CX-90 is the three-row iteration of the CX-70. It amounts to the same thing as ...Read more
Eric's Autos: 2026 Volvo V90 Cross Country
Some of the least well-known new cars are among the ones most looking into. The catch: If you don't know it exists, it's not likely you'll be looking into it.
One of these is Volvo's V90 wagon.
In the first place because it's a wagon -- rather than another crossover. In the second, because it's priced thousands less than the better-...Read more
Eric's Autos: 2026 Honda Ridgeline
It's gotten so that you almost can't find a standard (or even optional) V6 engine in a new midsize pickup anymore.
The Honda Ridgeline is one of just two that still comes standard with one. The rest no longer even offer one. And the Ridgeline's not really a pickup. At least not by the usual standards.
But that's not necessarily a...Read more
Eric's Autos: 2026 Ford Ranger
A strange thing has happened to what used to be compact -- and affordable -- trucks like the Ford Ranger and its rivals. They have grown in size to the extent that they are now nearly as big as full-size trucks used to be -- and they have become twice as expensive as compact trucks used to be as recently as about 10 years ago, when all the small...Read more
Eric's Autos: 2026 Cadillac XT5
Luxury-brand (and luxury-priced) vehicles have -- arguably -- been diminished by the fact that many of them have the same size and type of engine that non-luxury-brand vehicles have.
That size and type being a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The Cadillac XT5 also comes with one of those. But -- for the moment -- it is also still ...Read more
Eric's Autos: 2026 Nissan Kicks
Nissan has had trouble selling its electric vehicles -- the Leaf and Ariya (the latter was just recently canceled). Sales are down 94%. Probably because EVs are too expensive and too impractical for most people.
The Kicks is neither.
Which probably explains why it does sell.
What It Is
The Kicks is Nissan's smallest -- and most affordable --...Read more
