Tip: Harvest Dried Beans
National Gardening Association
Harvest pods of dried beans when brown and dry. Pick pods, place them
in a burlap bag, and hit the bag with a stick breaking beans out of
the pods. Separate the beans from the chaff and store.

Is there some reason you can't just gently break them out of their pod? It has alwaays worked for me.
