Q&A: Planting Garlic

National Gardening Association
Question: Last year I planted Burpee's garlic. It did very well; I harvested it in July. I am going to use my garlic from my July harvest to plant for next year. The problem is I forget how to plant it. Do I take the covering off the garlic cloves?

Answer: Gently break the whole garlic bulbs apart and separate into individual cloves, leaving the papery skin intact. Plant cloves pointy-side up about 1 to 2 inches deep and 6 inches apart.
