PHILADELPHIA — Jalen Hurts is out indefinitely and could miss the remainder of the 2026 season, according to a statement released Monday morning by the Philadelphia Eagles and his agent, Nicole Lynn.

According to the statement, further medical testing revealed multiple blood clots in Hurts’ lungs. He has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and “bilateral pulmonary emboli.”

Hurts “is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations,” the statement read. “His treatment should only involve [blood thinners]. During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football.

“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.”

Hurts was initially diagnosed with a blood clot in his calf last Saturday in London, according to the Eagles. He reported to the team after practice on Thursday, Oct. 8, that he had taken a cleat to the calf in the team’s Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Hurts then practiced in full with the team the next day and flew with the team to London overnight.

According to the Eagles, Hurts underwent an ultrasound in London last Saturday “out of an abundance of caution,” and a “superficial blood clot” was found. According to multiple reports, from NBCSports and NFL Network, Hurts had minimal sleep and was awake late into the morning hours at a London hospital before playing in last Sunday’s game.

Hurts then flew home with the team and later practiced in full on Wednesday. He spoke with reporters after practice during his usual Wednesday news conference and called the ordeal “a very unique experience to say the least.”

“I don’t want to get into the details of leading up to the game and whatnot.”

Hurts, according to the Eagles, had a follow-up ultrasound on Wednesday night that revealed movement in the clot. The team announced on Thursday that Hurts would be out Sunday while dealing with a “superficial” clot that had moved.

They then placed Hurts on injured reserve on Saturday.

Tanner McKee, who started Sunday’s loss to Carolina, is expected to be the starter for the foreseeable future. The Eagles also added Joe Milton to the roster on Friday. They now have McKee, Milton and rookie Cole Payton on the roster.
