BALTIMORE — Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was ruled out for Sunday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons after missing his third straight day of practice Friday in Owings Mills with a sprained left ankle.

Coach Jesse Minter said that the two-time NFL Most Valuable Player will not play, meaning Tyler “Snoop” Huntley will start for Baltimore.

Huntley led the Ravens to two wins last season while filling in for an injured Jackson. Huntley is 7-9 as the starter in his NFL career, including 5-6 with the Ravens.

The Ravens are 6-11 without Jackson, who has missed time because of injuries in four of his nine seasons. The 29-year-old signed a five-year, $260 million contract in April 2023, including $185 million guaranteed, and is expected to negotiate a new deal before his salary cap hit for 2027 increases to $84.3 million.

“We’ve got a ton of confidence in Snoop,” Minter said after practice Friday. “He played really well, and so I think everybody on the team is excited to see that and him to have this opportunity.”

The former undrafted free agent also came off the bench in last week’s win over the Tennessee Titans after Jackson was sacked in the final seconds of the second quarter and did not return. Huntley started the second half and completed 8 of 9 passes for 63 yards. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano is the third quarterback on the depth chart.

With a full week of practice and game planning under his belt, Huntley said he feels more comfortable.

“It’s just like riding a bike,” Huntley said after practice Friday. “[If] you just ride a bike one day, you’re not going to feel too comfortable if you come back. [If] you do it every day, you feel more comfortable when you get out there.”

On the other side of the ball, Minter also said that Trey Hendrickson will not play after the outside linebacker missed practice for the second straight week.

“Both of them feel really good about maybe [returning] after this week,” Minter said about Jackson and Hendrickson’s availability next week against the Cleveland Browns.

Hendrickson suffered a right index finger injury during the Ravens’ Week 1 win against the Indianapolis Colts, which he played through in the team’s next two games. After the team returned from Brazil, though, Hendrickson underwent finger surgery and hasn’t practiced since.

Without the former All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl selection, the Ravens’ defense struggled to consistently get to the quarterback against the Tennessee Titans last week. Against Cam Ward, a young quarterback who struggles against the blitz, the Ravens generated only about a 20% pressure rate and recorded just one sack.

Although Hendrickson hasn’t recorded eye-catching sack numbers yet this year, he’s been noticeable when he’s on the field. Over three games, he was one of the most double-teamed edge rushers in the league and still managed to notch a sack while leading the team with a 17.5% pressure rate.

The attention he drew paved the way for others to produce, including outside linebacker Tavius Robinson, who racked up two sacks and 12 pressures opposite Hendrickson. Without Hendrickson on the field, Robinson finished Sunday’s game with no pressures.

In a week when the team will already be playing without Jackson, Hendrickson’s absence will be just as impactful to the team’s chances of upsetting the Falcons, who are 3 1/2-point favorites.

Defensive lineman Calais Campbell and center Cam Jurgens (concussion) were also absent Friday, but cornerback Marlon Humphrey (hamstring/calf) returned. Jurgens was officially ruled out, while Humphrey was listed as questionable.

Wide receiver Zay Flowers (foot) was also listed as questionable after a week of limited practice participation. After two days of limited practice, guard Andrew Vorhees (foot) is questionable.

As for the Falcons, only one player has been ruled out: linebacker Yasir Abdullah (hamstring).

Left tackle Jake Matthews (groin) was listed as questionable but is likely to play after fully participating in practice Friday. Three defenders were also listed as questionable: linebacker Divine Deablo (hamstring), defensive end Samson Ebukam (hamstring), and former Ravens defensive end Za’Darius Smith (concussion/neck). All three were limited participants in Friday’s practice. Deablo and Ebukam both played Monday against the Saints despite being listed as questionable.
