ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller, who lost his left arm after his car hit a truck in southern Missouri, has been charged with a misdemeanor as a result of the crash.

Miller was charged Monday in Jasper County with failure to drive on the right half of a roadway when the roadway was of sufficient width, resulting in an accident. Miller, 43, is scheduled to make a court appearance in Carthage, Missouri, on Sept. 21.

A GoFundMe was set up following the crash, but that led to online claims from multiple people that Miller had defrauded them in fantasy football leagues and through a scouting service. That led to an investigation being launched by the Missouri state attorney general.

Miller was driving east on Missouri Route 96, a two-lane road, when his Ford Bronco crossed the center of the road and drove into the front driver’s side of a semi-truck, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. The crash took place 1 1/2 miles west of Oronogo, Mo., and Miller was airlifted to a hospital in Joplin.

In July, Miller wrote on X: “A quick update: The surgery to remove my left arm was successful with hopes of an eventual prosthetic replacement. Similarly, the femur and patella surgeries were also successful and the fantastic surgery team was able to save my left leg.

“To best focus on my healing and recovery, I’m stepping away indefinitely and will be placed on leave from ESPN. Thank you to all for the prayers and thoughts; please keep them coming.”

The New York Times reported that Miller said his recovery will take 12 to 18 months. There has been no update on the investigation from the state of Missouri, but Miller indicated he has tried to make amends.

“Because this is an active investigation, I’ve been told by legal counsel to limit my response,” Miller wrote in an email to the Times. “However, I’ve tried reaching out to all the winners from the last season to make sure they’ve been paid. My (direct messages) on all social media remain open for winners to contact me. Because of my limited access to my original email account, I have had trouble authenticating winners, but everyone who finished in first, second or third place will be paid out and I’ve worked hard to make that happen.”

Miller’s bio is still on ESPN’s website and notes he is a Joplin native who attended Missouri Southern State University, and made his on-air NFL draft debut during day three of the 2023 NFL draft in Kansas City. That took place at Union Station.
