KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is in custody in Dallas County, Texas, after violating terms of the probation stemming from his involvement in a six-vehicle crash that occurred on March 30, 2024.
A court order filed Tuesday reads that Rice “tested positive for THC. (Rice) placed in custody. (Rice) ordered to serve thirty (30) days in jail previously ordered on July 17, 2025. (Rice) to be released from custody on Jun 16, 2026.”
Rice will miss organized training activities (OTAs) with the Chiefs next Tuesday, May 26. Kansas City will also hold voluntary workouts from May 26-28 and June 1-3 before a mandatory minicamp from June 9-11.
According to the Dallas County documents, Rice won’t be released from jail until five days after the team’s final mandatory minicamp practice.
Rice was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to two third-degree felony charges relating to the 2024 car crash. A Dallas district court judge ruled at the time of sentencing that Rice can serve the jail time at any point during the five-year probationary period.
But he violated the terms of that probation when he tested positive for THC and is now serving the 30-day jail sentence.
The NFL suspended Rice for the first six games of the 2025 NFL season in response to his involvement in the 2024 incident.
A second-round pick from SMU in 2023, Rice won a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs as a rookie. But he has played in just 12 games over the past two seasons because of the suspension and injuries.
