The WNBA's rookie scoring record now belongs to Minnesota Lynx point guard Olivia Miles, who moved past Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark for total points scored in a player's first season as the visiting Lynx beat the Connecticut Sun 101-89 on the road.

Miles' first points — a pair of free throws early in the second quarter — put her total at 771. She went on to put up 21 points and six assists, helping the Lynx (32-10) snap a three-game losing streak.

Both Miles and Clark accomplished the feat in 40 games played.

A game against Connecticut (10-32) — a team that's struggled all year, with a revolving starting cast due to injuries — was less about gauging the Lynx's chops against a potential playoff matchup and more so about the Lynx assessing their ability to stick to their fundamentals.

"We want to play our game," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said pregame. "There's a lot unknowns for us on the other side, so that's not our focus."

The Lynx led wire-to-wire as Napheesa Collier scored 19 of her team-high 23 points in the first half, held to just two before halftime against New York on Friday.

Natasha Howard recorded a 18-point, 11-rebound double-double.

But on their last trip to Mohegan Sun Arena before the Sun franchise relocates to Houston, the Lynx weren't able to leave Connecticut in the rearview mirror. The Sun, which averages a league-low 42.2% from the field, shot 15 for 28 from 3, and 53% overall.

The Lynx, meanwhile, were just 4 for 21 from behind the arc, but 50% from the floor.

The Sun cut the Lynx's lead to as few as seven early in the fourth quarter, but Miles was able to get to the rim, and the Lynx were able to find Howard late, to keep on the front foot.

The Lynx now need to win one of their final two games against the Fever to lock up the No. 1 seed in the WNBA playoffs.
