SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres will be without closer Mason Miller for at least Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

Miller was placed on the postseason paternity list about 40 minutes before the scheduled first pitch of the Padres’ game against the Brewers at Petco Park on Tuesday.

Left-hander Wandy Peralta replaced Miller on the roster.

The team is facing elimination, so Miller will only pitch for them again this year if they win Tuesday.

Speaking on Sunday morning at American Family Field, Miller confirmed he would attend the birth of his first child, which he said was not due for two weeks. He said he was hoping the Padres were playing in San Diego when the baby was born so he would miss as little time as possible.

Depending on when the baby is born, he could be available for Game 4 if there is one.

Miller tied for the National League lead with 38 saves while posting a 1.67 ERA during the regular season.

He walked three batters and allowed a walk-off single by Jackson Chourio in the Brewers’ 4-3 victory in Game 2 on Sunday.

Adrian Morejón, who did not pitch Sunday, is the Padres’ likely closer if one is needed Tuesday.

Miller is the second Padres pitcher to go on the paternity list this series. Starting pitcher Walker Buehler did not travel to Milwaukee, as his wife gave birth to a son over the weekend.

A player placed on the paternity list in the postseason has to remain there for one day and can be on the list for three days. When the player returns, he takes the place of the player who replaced him.
