BOSTON — The start of Saturday’s 4:10 p.m. ET game between the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park has been delayed due to heavy rain in the Fenway area, the Red Sox announced at a quarter past three.

Patrick Sandoval (0-0, 2.08 ERA, 5 K) is scheduled to start for the Red Sox, opposite fellow left-hander Ian Seymour (6-2, 4.59 ERA, 75 K).

The Red Sox are 48-48 after winning their 11th consecutive game in the latter half of Friday’s split doubleheader. The Rays are 56-40 and in first place in the American League East, two and a half games ahead of the New York Yankees and eight ahead of the third-place Sox.

Fittingly, the Red Sox and Rays were forced to open the second half of the season with a split doubleheader because their May 9 game at Fenway got rained out.
