Gadgets: This speaker has it all
Published in Science & Technology News
The Fender x Teufel’s Rockstar Cross Bluetooth 5.0 speaker has it all: great sound at any volume and a rugged, good-looking design for portability.
Inside the rugged 5.1-by-15-by-6.3-inch, 5.3-pound speaker are two tweeters, a woofer and two passive radiators that deliver powerful, room-filling sound. It played much louder than I ever needed while maintaining impressive clarity at every volume. At my normal listening volume, the audio was crisp, detailed and well-balanced. Even when I cranked it up to ear-defying levels, the speaker delivered the same clean, distortion-free sound.
It will be the life of your pool party in bass mode, with an IPX5-certified rating that withstands splashes and is also shockproof. The serious sound comes from the front, which is covered by a retro-looking grille with a black-and-silver design.
With its design, you can use Optimal Sound Projection to angle the audio. For example, if the speaker is sitting on the ground, tip the speaker back and an angle built into the bottom keeps it balanced while angling the sound up.
Aside from the sound, the Rockstar Cross has many handy features, including a built-in power bank that charges other USB devices from its internal battery. It’s rated for 16 hours of battery life, which can vary depending on your volume level and whether you use it to charge other devices.
Buttons on the back control power, pairing, playback, volume and music selection. LEDs are on the back to track the remaining battery level, and there’s also an auxiliary port.
If you're lucky enough to have two Rockstar Cross speakers, you can pair them for true stereo sound with synchronized playback. An adjustable Fender guitar strap is included and attaches to the built-in mounting points, making it easy to carry the speaker wherever you go.

The Eufy Security SmartTrack Card E40 is the company's first in the growing field of smart tracking devices.
It is designed with an ultra-slim red card design, measuring just 3.3 inches long by 2.1 inches wide and a minuscule 0.06 inches thick. The small footprint makes it perfect for storing in your wallet, backpack, luggage, or wherever you keep a valuable you want to track.
If you're not familiar with tracking devices, you need to be. They were made popular in the past few years by Apple with AirTags and their Apple Find My app. Android has joined the FindHub network. The tracking devices come in a variety of shapes and sizes to track the location of a wallet, a person, a passport, a backpack, or even a vehicle. The exact global coordinates can be looked up in the tracking apps.
The Eufy Security SmartTrack Card E40 supports Bluetooth 5.1 and works wirelessly with both platforms. It charges wirelessly and will last up to 5 months on a single charge, thanks to its 140 mAh battery. An LED glows red while charging, and turns blue when fully charged.
In addition to tracking its location, it can sound an alarm through the apps, reaching up to 80 dB. Think of how great that will be when you just misplace items in your own house, which are now found with the press of a button. If your phone is misplaced, just double-tap the card to make your phone ring, even if it’s in silent mode.
The Apple Find My app can send you a left-behind alert, letting you know you left without the tracker and the item it is tracking.
