Do Just One Thing
Ever go through your pantry and find a bag of sprouted potatoes? While they still may be safe to eat, the flavor and texture often aren't the best. Instead of tossing them, put those old potatoes to work around the house. Cut them in half and use them to help remove rust from cast-iron pans, garden tools, hinges and other metal objects. The natural acids in potatoes help break down rust, while the rough texture of the skin acts as a gentle abrasive. Another smart use: Rub a cut potato over cloudy glass, silverware or mirrors to help remove water spots and restore shine. The starches in the potato help lift residue and leave surfaces looking brighter.
