With its world-famous theme parks, aquatic attractions and entertainment, Orlando has always known how to dazzle. But The City Beautiful can be quietly seductive, too, weaving a spell through gardens, art, intimate music venues and unexpected indulgences.

For couples, Orlando is a destination that balances whimsy with sophistication, adrenaline with serenity and easy-going days with late-night shimmer.

A sudsy soak

Slide straight into full relaxation mode at The Beer Spa Orlando, the country’s first European-style beer spa. This playful retreat, featuring a bubbling thermal tub infused with signature beer treatment (a proprietary blend of hops, barley and herbs), is designed to soothe muscles and soften skin. It’s warm, aromatic and surprisingly romantic.

Beneath the dimmed lights of the private suite, couples can fill their steins from the self-serve beer tap and toast the good life as they steep in warm suds and let the world melt away. The tap is included, but oenophiles are not forgotten: Wine is available for those who prefer grapes to hops, as I do. Additionally, the suites are equipped with private bathroom, infrared sauna and hay lounge. Stretching out in this stack of straw proved to be a comfy cool-down, with the overall experience unique, a little cheeky and thoroughly indulgent.

Boutiques, botanicals and a beloved museum

One of my favorite places to visit is Winter Park, a tree-lined enclave just north of Orlando that is filled with boutiques, cafés and galleries. Strolling along Park Avenue is the perfect antidote to the hustle-bustle of the workaday world. Call me a bookstore junkie, but I can never pass up the chance to slip into an indie shop for a good browse. I found the Writer’s Block Bookstore, located on my walk between Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Co. and the Morse Museum, to be an absolute charmer, its window displays an inviting prelude to the shelves and tables of titles within.

The jewel of this district is the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by glass-making impresario Louis Comfort Tiffany. Walking through its hushed galleries is like stepping into a kaleidoscope: leaded-glass lamps and windows, paintings and pottery and jewelry and shimmering art glass aglow with color and craftsmanship.

The Laurelton Hall galleries showcase the fully restored Daffodil Terrace from Tiffany’s Long Island estate along with 250 art and architectural objects from the long-lost mansion. The museum’s pièce de résistance? The ornate and exquisitely wrought chapel interior Tiffany created for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, a space of mosaics, marble and stained glass so breathtakingly stunning it feels almost sacred. For couples who love museum culture and quiet moments, the Morse is a serene and sensory-rich interlude.

Just minutes from downtown, the Harry P. Leu Gardens offers another kind of tranquility. Spread across 50 acres against the backdrop of Lake Rowena, the gardens are a lush tapestry of camellias, azaleas and fragrant roses, towering oaks and winding pathways — ideal for a morning stroll, midday wander or golden-hour photo session.

Meander through themed gardens—edible, herb, tropical fruit and (my favorite) conifer, among them. Find your way to the multitiered fountain splashing melody throughout the Rose Garden. Relax beneath the canopy of ancient trees and listen to the rustle of leaves. Poke around the garden treasures in the Foxtail Marketplace & Café. With its storybook nooks and hidden benches, the gardens feel like a secret, one beloved by locals and enchanting for visitors.

Music and mood

Maintain that mellow vibe with an evening visit to one of Orlando’s newest and most intimate performance spaces: Judson’s Live. Tucked inside the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts downtown — a cultural powerhouse that is home to Broadway tours, the Orlando Ballet and three major theaters, including acoustical marvel Steinmetz Hall — it is a cabaret-style room where the lights are low, the cocktails are polished and the music sublime.

On the night of my visit, the Joshua Redman Quartet headlined. We settled into a cozy booth, sipped wine and savored tangy pork sliders and crisp yet melty Manchego cheese bites while the musicians gathered on stage. In the jazz world, Redman—a Grammy-nominated saxophonist, composer and bandleader—is considered a gifted improvisor and charismatic performer, and he did not disappoint, performing original compositions to an enthusiastic full house as part of his “Words Fall Short” tour.

Epic adventures

As die-hard Harry Potter fans, we planned a day at Universal Epic Universe. Universal Orlando Resort’s fourth theme park lives fully up to its name with more than 50 attractions, dining spots and immersive worlds.

We beelined directly to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, an all-new land that blends 1920s wizarding Paris inspired by the "Fantastic Beasts" films with the iconic British Ministry of Magic. It’s atmospheric and stylish, the movie brought to life in living color and detail. We wandered the cobblestone streets, ducked into magical shops and were blown away by the sheer scale and splendor of the Ministry’s grand atrium.

Even moodier is Dark Universe, a realm of gothic landscapes, eerie experiments and roaming monsters. It’s atmospheric in a way that’s more cinematic than scary, and the storytelling—centered around Dr. Victoria Frankenstein and her creations—adds a dramatic edge to the thrills.

We lightened the mood with a visit to Super Nintendo World, climbing the staircase to this bright, kinetic and joyfully nostalgic world, one that invites you to jump into the green pipe and become part of the game. Whether racing through Donkey Kong Country or teaming up to collect digital coins, your inner child will be instantly (and hopelessly) captivated. We were—and bought the souvenir Mario and Luigi caps to prove it.

Tables for two

A big part of Orlando’s allure is its culinary culture and landscape, and several restaurants, each offering outstanding food and elevated experiences, became highlights of the trip.

Café Tu Tu Tango is kitschy, colorful and irresistibly fun—an International Drive foodie fave that channels nonstop party energy. An art explosion in bold primary hues, with a glittering aquarium on one wall and tarot card reader set up at another, the restaurant unabashedly celebrates the artist in food and form. Live painters work in real time, the drinks menu offers a Featured Artist Cocktail and spontaneous performances—belly dancing, flamenco, salsa, merengue—keep the tempo amped.

The all-scratch, small-plate menu encourages sharing, from global street-food bites to craft beers, curated wines, mojitos and signature sangrias. We tried the Cajun chicken egg rolls, Cuban sliders, spiced alligator bites and street corn—all delicious. And because two desserts are better than one, we dug into the flourless chocolate cake and guava bread pudding. Café Tu Tu Tango’s atmosphere is high-spirited and creative—a feast for the senses for couples who love a little chaos with their cuisine.

In Winter Park, the award-winning Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Co. flagship café hustles and bustles with a steady stream of coffee connoisseurs who know that this is the place to get their morning cuppa. It is a neighborhood staple, albeit one with a national reach, and the staff knows the regulars (and their orders) on sight, but newbies are welcomed just as heartily.

I paired a fragrant latte with the signature breakfast sandwich, which was stuffed with bacon, fried egg, spinach, cheddar and a house-made tomato jam that zinged my taste buds with a spicy bite. The herb-roasted potatoes, soft inside with crusty-crispy exterior, are an absolute must-order accompaniment. Simply divine.

We couldn’t resist loading up on selections of Barnie’s bestselling coffees to take home: Santa’s White Christmas, its blend of coconut, caramel and vanilla aromas transporting you straight to Christmas morning; Cool Cafe Blues, tempting with its cinnamon-forward scent; and Sweetheart Blend, luxurious with its chocolate and cherries aroma in perfect balance.

Two other restaurants to love: Upscale yet unpretentious, buzzy but laidback, Bulla Gastrobar features artisanal small-plate dining in an airy setting and is known for its signature charcoal-fired grill/oven that lends a smoky char to grilled octopus, prime steaks and more. For afternoon tapas, we shared some menu standouts: crispy patatas bravas with spicy brava sauce, a tomatillo hummus, to-die-for tomato bread and chorizo-stuffed dates, plus a smoky-rich Spanish lentil soup. Delectable.

Combining the sophistication of a speakeasy with Miami nightlife energy, Corazón by Baires is a moody, broody space we loved for its Latin American-inspired entrées like the Cuba Libre short rib. Take the elevator to the second floor to be ushered into a world where a glamorous setting meets immersive dining, bold flavors and artistic plating — a place that feels like a hidden escape despite its location on Orlando’s bustling International Drive.
