Q: The political movement in America today is divisive regardless of which side is taken. Some say that the liberals just want to take from the rich and “give” to the poor, while conservatives are greedy. One side wants to take our freedoms away and the other side wants to protect them. Some say our nation is headed for communism and others say capitalism must stay in power. No one can agree on anything. How can this be in a nation so blessed by God? – J.D.

A: There are two kingdoms: the world and God’s kingdom. Too many people want to have a foot in the world and one foot in the kingdom of God; it’s like straddling a fence. Communism won’t win; capitalism won’t either. The kingdom of God will win in the end.

The verb of the world is “get.” The verb of Christ’s kingdom is “give.” God gave His one and only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to a sin-sick world. Through the shedding of His precious blood, Jesus willingly died on a cross to cover mankind’s sins. His salvation is offered to each and every person, but it’s up to each individual to repent of sin and receive Christ as Savior.

Jesus Christ was rich, and yet He became poor that we “through His poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9, NKJV). His disciples exemplified obedience to Christ. They followed Him. They realized there’s no permanent value in worldly goods and thus cherished the abiding values of Christ and His teaching. They lived with eternity in view and didn’t allow themselves to be steeped in the muck and mire of worldliness.

Are you ready for the kingdom of God? This is the primary question each person in life is faced with and must answer: Who do you follow? May it be Christ alone.
