My Answer

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: Is it true that God needs us? Growing up I never heard this teaching, but it is everywhere now and I’m curious if this is really true. – G.N.

A: God can get along without any one of us. We must never think of God as needy. Rather, He is the One who provides all things, including the breath of life.

There’s a story in the Bible about the great military captain named Joshua, who followed Moses in leading God’s people. God had told Joshua to conquer a place called Jericho, giving Joshua explicit instruction on this military operation. The army was to march around the walls of Jericho once a day for six days. On the seventh day, they were to march around it seven times and then blow the ram’s horn. God told Joshua that the walls would fall down – and that is exactly what happened.

Plenty of scholars have laughed at this story about the Jericho walls falling. But some time ago, an archaeologist found that the walls of Jericho had fallen from the inside out – flat – just as the Bible said. No swords, no arrows, no technology. Just the mighty blast of the trumpets and the shouts from the army of God. His word has the power, but He gave man the privilege of carrying out His operation.

When we operate out of our own power and arrogance, God is not pleased. We must seek God’s guidance and be obedient to His truth.

Throughout the Bible we see the great acts of God through mankind, proving God’s power and truth. And when God gives the victory, we are to praise Him and thank Him for His leading.
