Q: Is the human race capable of making correct judgments on morality: telling the truth, honoring others, and caring for loved ones? When I see how far society has declined, I really have to wonder if moral clarity is possible. – M.C.

A: The Bible teaches that man has the capacity to make moral judgments. He has a free will. Some say Christians believe certain things only because we’ve been taught by parents, teachers, or pastors. They say that such things aren’t really so, that we wouldn’t even imagine having the capacity to make individual decisions without such indoctrination. But part of the human makeup which distinguishes man from other creatures is his ability to reason and make moral decisions. Man is a free moral agent.

Communists and socialists have long held that the whole idea of individual rights and responsibilities as taught in the Bible is a crazy notion. They believe that through outward training and conditioning, they can save the world and change human beings, thus bringing about a perfect society.

But they don’t understand human nature, diseased with sin. Their system sounds convincing to many intellectuals who sit and listen with enthusiasm but that system is wrong. Their collection of knowledge centered on deceptive data is wrong.

Jesus tells us that our problems do not come from without, but from within (see Matthew 15:19). The blood of Christ is the great cleanser. The Father in Heaven is the source of all blessing, the Son is the channel of all blessing, and it’s through the Holy Spirit at work in believers that all truth becomes living and operative in our lives.

The Bible sheds light on this matter. I have yet to discover any source of information, practical advice, and hope that compares to the wisdom found in the Bible. God’s data center is Himself. He is the whole Source of knowledge and wisdom – in everything.
