How has the devil tricked us into giving him the most important parts of our day?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: While visiting a friend, I poured my heart out, going from one thing to another, carelessly telling her that my favorite activity was spending two or three hours at night on Facebook. I also told her how miserable I was. She challenged me to read some Bible passages each morning and pray each night. I told her I was too rushed in the mornings to read the Bible and too tired at night to pray. What she said felt like a stab in my heart. “Perhaps you’ll give some of your Face time to Jesus, He’ll be closer than all of your faceless friends.” She was right. How the devil has tricked us into giving him the most important parts of our day. – F.H.

A: No room for Jesus? But room for endless busyness. There was no room for Jesus in the world that He had made – imagine! It was true when He came to dwell among us, and it’s true every day in the here and now. God is still on the fringes of most of our lives. We fit Him in when it is convenient; we say He’s part of our lives, but do not demonstrate it.

We’re in danger as we go about our busy activities, excluding Jesus. Do we have time enough to begin each day reading God’s Word and praying? Do we think to ask what He might have us do today? When something goes wrong, some will call out His name, but what about taking the first moments of each day to tell Him that we love Him and trust Him to lead and guide our every step and our every word, setting our hearts in motion to depend upon Him? Can we say, “Lord, there’s room in my heart for You”?

The great preacher Alan Redpath from Moody Church once said, “Beware of the barrenness of a busy life.” We cannot afford to be too busy to pray.
