This is a good opportunity to visualize possible mating positions if it weren’t for those pesky Black pieces. Then figure out how to make those pieces useless. From a game, Nikitn-Butkevic, Moscow, 1955.

Solution:

There are quite a few mating possibilities, but it all starts with a knight move: 1.Nxf5 Rxe2 [1...Rxf5 2.Qxe8+; 1...Rb8 2.Qh5 Rbb7 (2...h6 3.Nxh6+ Qxh6 4.Qxh6; 2...Rxf5 3.Bxf5 h6 4.Be6+ Kh7 5.g8Q+) 3.Qxh7+ Kxh7 4.g8Q#] 2.Ne7+ Rexe7 3.Bxh7+ Kxh7 4.g8Q+ Kh6 5.Qg6# The Black queen and two rooks are quite useless even though they are in the neighborhood.
