(UPI) Emergency crews in Ohio responded to a frozen pond where a cow had fallen through the ice and was stranded in the water.

The emergency responders arrived Monday afternoon at the pond south of Concord, in Cabarrus County, after receiving reports of a cow in distress.

Rescuers used a rubber boat to venture out onto the ice and marsh water to tie a line around the cow before using a sledgehammer and chainsaw to break up the ice surrounding the bovine.

The crews then used an electric winch to pull the cow to safety.

The cow, named Julie, was able to stand up and walk on her own after a few minutes of resting on her side, rescuers said.
